Wednesday Afternoon Book Study
“WABS Book Study Group does not meet in July or August”
Our Book Study group is now on vacation! We simply read through the summer months.
The Wednesday Afternoon Book Study has chosen several books to take us through the summer and into our Wednesday, September 9th meeting.
Here are our summer suggested readings:
- Lovely One, Ketanji Brown Jackson. Supreme Court Justice Jackson’s memoir. Interesting and moving.
- The Bean Trees, Barbara Kingsolver. Kingsolver’s early work. A joy to read.
- Symphony of Secrets, Brendan Slocumb. We enjoyed his first musical mystery work tremendously.
- Theo of Golden, Allen Levi. On everyone’s best seller list. A “feel good” read.
- The Frozen River, Ariel Lawhon. A 1780’s dedicated midwife unravels a mystery death, while plying her skills.
Each is a great read. Even if you don’t read them all, please come for discussion of these and other good-reads-to-share.
A little shade, a glass of lemonade, a good book, ah, the delights of summer!
Please plan to join us on Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m., in the Church Library. All are welcome.

What? Women Happily Aging Together?
Join What? Women Happily Aging Together this summer. Below is a list of outings to come!
July Event — Organized by Lori Johnson
Get ready for a splashy good time. A Pool Party is happening on Saturday, July 18th, and organizer Lori Johnson will share additional details with participants as the date gets closer.
Save the date! Our August What? Women Happily Aging Together? outing will be gathering together on Monday, August 24th at Memorial Park in Claremont for the La Verne classic rock band, The Answer. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. so we should gather between 6-6:30 p.m. so we can get settled in for listening. A few of us will get there early to claim some space. We will be in the southeast corner of the park.
Please carpool so you don’t have to walk too far. Bring a blanket or beach/camp chair and feel free to bring your dinner or snacks. (They ask folks to bring the low chairs but they are somewhat hard to maneuver which is a reason we are a bit further back. I bring my regular camp chair and no one complains about it.) Kiwanis sells hamburgers and hot dogs. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying Concert in the Park! For additional information click on the link below.
Please contact Jonnie Owens or Lori Johnson for details of the event.

Caregivers’ Connection
Caregivers’ Connection will meet on Saturday, July 11th at 2 p.m. in the Fireside Room. We will continue a previous conversation on making a plan in case you, the caregiver, have an emergency and need help with your care recipient. There will also be time to give updates. Carolyn Cockrell and Dale Stanley will be your hosts.
Location: Fireside Room
Date/time: Saturday, July 11, 2026 | 2:00 p.m.
