Lenten Connect Groups

Lenten Spiritual Formation Groups

Lenten Spiritual Formation opportunities will be offered on Sunday mornings during the typical 10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. time frame. The following Lenten Spiritual Formation opportunities do not require a sign-up. Simply show up for one or all of them. They will offer community and connection around shared interests as well.

Whether mid-week or during Spiritual Formation or some combination of both, we hope you’ll find ways to connect with your church family during Lent.

Join Sue Konkel-White to read and discuss The Cross and the Olive Tree, a collection of reflections by young Palestinian theologians exploring suffering, martyrdom, liberation, reconciliation, and divine imagination.

This group offers space for deep listening, honest conversation, and shared spiritual reflection as we consider how these voices challenge and expand our understanding of the cross, justice, and God’s presence in the world today. Come ready to learn, wrestle, and be transformed alongside others seeking meaning during the Lenten season.

Youth & Hope 4 Home

We are a Matthew 25 Movement congregation, seeking to protect and defend the vulnerable in the name of Jesus. One of the ways we live out this commitment is by preparing and providing meals for Hope 4 Home, a local transitional housing center in Pomona.

On March 15th, our youth will be partnering with Tron in the kitchen as they help plan, prepare, and cook a warm and nourishing meal for the residents. Through this hands‑on service, they’ll practice teamwork, learn practical kitchen skills, and experience what it means to serve their neighbors with compassion and dignity. Their contributions play a meaningful role in supporting individuals and families working toward stability and new beginnings.

All ages are invited to participate in meal preparations—whether chopping, cooking, assembling, or offering encouragement in the kitchen.

For questions, email our kitchen ministries coordinator, Tron Passmore, at kitchen@lavernecob.org

Mid-Week Lenten Connect Groups: Sign-ups Required

Each year during Lent, groups form around shared interests and connection. This year there are several opportunities for you to connect with your church family as we journey toward Easter. The following Lenten Connect Groups require sign-ups and meet at various times and locations. Take a moment to read through these groups and then sign-up for one or all of them. We encourage everyone to participate in this meaningful journey together.

Art, History, and Museum

Join Al Clark for a rich exploration of art, culture, and storytelling through some of Southern California’s most fascinating museums. This group will visit the Simon, Bowers, Broad, and Riverside/Cheech Marin museums, along with two additional museums selected together by the group from the Fowler, Getty, Getty Villa, MOCA, and MOLAA.

Each Sunday after church, we’ll share lunch together before carpooling to the museum of the day. Along the way, we’ll enjoy conversation, learn from one another, and encounter art that stretches our minds, deepens our appreciation of history, and sparks meaningful reflection.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a history lover, or simply curious to experience world‑class museums in good company, this is a welcoming space to explore, connect, and discover something new each week.

WHAT? Women Happily Aging Together

During this period of Lenten reflection we will initially meet and discuss some of the particular challenges of women aging and find strength, wisdom and inspiration from each other.

We will follow this meeting with a series of ‘field trips’ or outings to cultural and community institutions together, having fun, building relationships, and stretching ourselves beyond our normal routines. We will ride the Metro into Pasadena and LA, visit a museum and have lunch. During the initial meeting we’ll go over the outings so folks will have enough knowledge to know if they are interested in joining us. Participants may attend any or all of the outings. Some outings may have a participant capacity.

Because this group includes a variety of outings and experiences, times and locations will vary. Details will be shared in advance so participants can decide which events work best for them. Click on the link below for the full schedule.

Location: First Meeting will be held in the Social Hall

Ages: Adults
